It’s really not as difficult as you may think, As a matter of fact I think it’s easier today because there are so many different website platforms to choose from.
Cms or content management systems are by far the leading platform used today, Bloggers and large companies alike choose cms platforms for there ability to process large amounts of content and data such as pages or large user bases dynamically so an average webmaster can run a very popular site with lots of visitors or users with little or no php or html coding experience, Creating new pages is very easy because site navigation is updated automatically eliminating the need to update navigation menus manually, wpweblook.com was created with the wordpress cms platform using our free theme wpweblook , We offer a large selection of addons to change the entire theme with just a few clicks.
Choosing a web host
A web host provides you a server to which the files for your website will be stored and your domain name DNS or domain name servers point to, I always recommend purchasing your domain name with the same company that is hosting your website files at least until you are a little more familiar with dns settings and the basics of hosting a website, If you choose to change your web host in the future you can always transfer these settings.
What type of host to choose?
There is basically 2 choices here, You can go with an online website builder or manage your own server.
Online website builders have there pros and cons, The main pro is the what you see is what you get interface or wysiwyg.
Your entire site can be built and maintained using a drag and drop interface from the front end without ever seeing any raw code.
The downside is a limited ability to add functions like shopping carts for eCommerce or similar features without paying large monthly fees.
Don’t get me wrong online website builders definitely have there place but I like having full control over my server, You can add eCommerce
functionality and many other options at will without being charged extra monthly fees.
In short if you want full control, Managing your own server is probably the way to go
and most host will only charge around 20 us dollars a month for unlimited space.
Register a domain name
The second step is choosing the right domain name, The Universal Resource Locator or URL is the web address users will enter to reach your website,
Example would be something like ( bunniesandrainbows.com ), Your domain should be as short as possible and be relevant to your sites content.
Pricing is around 12 us dollars per year depending on the web host you choose, It gets even cheaper if you pay for multiple years.
Choose a website platform
A website can be created many different ways but I will stick to the most common types, HTML and PHP are common formats for almost all websites,
There are many free website resources on the web that can be used to build simple 1, 2, 3 , 4 or 5 page websites,
Our sister site freeweblooks.com offers free html web templates to easily create small websites by editing simple .txt files using windows notepad.
If you do not want to dig in to raw code of any kind I recommend using wordpress, As I mentioned at the beginning of this article wordpress is a cms based platform that is setup and maintained online using a browser based point and click interface, We offer free setup and hosting using a sub domain, Example ( mysite.wpweblooks.com ).
Our free wordpress hosting service is a great way to familiarize yourself with wordpress and the web before purchasing hosting and a domain name.
After your site is up and running and your satisfied with the results you can purchase everything you need from us and we will setup a permanent domain name without the need to move files or reassign dns settings.
As far as best website design goes there are a few things to consider, A site should be easy to understand and navigate.
Far to often web designers get so caught up in the design they forget about usability making there site hard to figure
out leaving users frustrated and they simply move on to another website, The next thing to consider is making sure your site
is search engine friendly for sites like google, Yahoo and Bing. If you do any research about running a website optimizing it
for search engines should be at the top of your list.If you do not feel comfortable setting up your own website we can do it for you,
We specialize in web development of all types from simple html designs to complicated wordpress themes and our design packages start at only 199.00.
If you choose not to use a cms or similar platform then you will need to upload and download your site files using ftp. Ftp is a network protocol that allows for the transfer of files over the Internet, All web host’s will offer tutorials on how to use ftp with there servers and in general it’s very simple, You add a file named index.htm, index.html or index.php to your public directory folder and when someone types your domain name in the address bar it will open the index page then you create more pages like about.htm and add a link to it in the index page and so on.There are many free ftp clients to choose from my favorite is filezila but there are many more, Just type free ftp in any search engine.
